Dive into the distinct and fascinating wildlife on Victoria’s own doorstep! Students will explore the diverse array of animals hidden in their own backyards. Discover how Victorian species not only survive, but thrive in some of the coldest winters and hottest summer across Australia.

Victoria is the most southern state of mainland Australia. Weather patterns in Victoria are incredibly varied and often extreme. Highest summer records have show temperatures top 45 degrees and winters plummet below -11 degrees in the south. Accompanying the weather patterns are vastly varied environments. Victoria has rich alpine ranges, semi-arid deserts, coastal landscapes, sweeping grasslands and dense forests all contributing to the wealth of habitats and environments. As a result of all of this, the wildlife in Victoria have evolved to combat these harsh conditions and flourish in the contrasting environments.

What you'll learn

Exploring Victoria is offered specifically to school groups both primary and secondary.  This package is packed with information and resources that are individualised for you school location, filling your students with the means to explore wildlife outside the classroom. We can tailor this package to suit Victorian Curriculum F-10 Biology topics plus topics outside.

Topics which suit this package include:

  • Environmental influences of growth and survival

  • Inheritable characteristics

  • Biotic and abiotic components of ecosystems

  • Sustainability and conservation.

This package aims to inspire children to learn about the wide variety of wildlife that live right outside their home and classroom. From the smallest frog, to the largest monitor we uncover the animals that can be discovered while they’re playing outside or visiting family and friends across the state. Our mix of invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals gives students a comprehensive insight into how the environment of the state has shaped the wildlife, especially for those who are far removed from the natural landscapes of Victoria.
